Now that Thanksgiving is past us, I finally feel the freedom to celebrate all things Christmas. Although we will only be home for half of December, we still pulled down all our decorations from the attic, and went to work making our space “merry and bright”! Most of our winter decor pieces have been passed down from family or gifted to us, and for the most part are mis-matched. I don’t mind though, because I cherish the people and stories they remind me of when I look at them.Read More
Do you have a family photo session scheduled in the next several weeks??
I am raising my hand in the affirmative, and I bet you may have one on your calendar too. We set out to capture this season of life that our family is in and the beauty of the changing colors around us. Let’s be honest though, we mostly want a killer Christmas card shot... amiright? No shame in the card game, but our guest blogger today encourages each of us to think beyond that one photo, and gives some tried and true advice for how to make the most out of your upcoming session (it’s such a great post, trust me!).
I am incredibly excited to introduce you guys to my good friend, and very newly married, Carrie Savage! She’s an AMAZING photographer with Texture Photo, specializing in weddings out of Knoxville, TN, and is one of the most relational and loyal people I have ever met. Her gift for capturing details and telling her client’s unique story through her camera lens is unreal. Seriously. This girl knows her stuff, and her thoughts on family photo sessions are golden.
Sweet, sweet Micah,
It feels like the past twelve months have come and gone so quickly, yet here we are, celebrating the gift your life is to our family. Although I haven’t filled out any pages in your baby book (oops!), had the heart to take away your beloved pacifier, or finished decorating your room, I HAVE truly treasured each day God has given me with you.
When thinking over the year, there are a few things that stick out to me the most:Read More
It's officially Spring! Although the weather still seems like it's not quite on board yet, I am set on celebrating the warmth that is to come.
One of our family's goals this year is to "simplify." We are targeting areas in our home that are cluttered and inevitably stressful, in hopes that it will enable us to function better day-to-day. It is going very slowly, but I've seen a lot of progress already! We have been taking the time to throw away, donate, or sell unused/unwanted items, and our home already feels so much better.Read More
It's been that kind of January/February/March.
You know... the one where our Christmas decorations are not put away yet (*face palm* emoji) and at least one person in our family has been constantly struggling with sickness. I've put a pause button on a lot of those new year goals I was excited to get started on in necessity to take care of our present needs.Read More
Holiday baking. For some, the mention of these words invokes warm childhood memories in the kitchen or a fun tradition you currently do with your family. To others, it may make you break out in a cold sweat and baking is just an added stress to your long to-do list. If you find yourself identifying with the latter category, I hope this post provides you with an anxiety-free opportunity to make and enjoy a yummy recipe with your loved ones this holiday season. And if you enjoy holiday baking, you're in for a treat... pun intended :-)Read More
Less than two weeks away, Christmas is just around the corner and I may just be a tad bit excited. Okay, a lot excited. We decorated our tree earlier this week as we sang our favorite holiday songs, the kids went to see Santa today, and our baby girl has been practicing (aka sleeping) for her big debut as baby Jesus in our church's nativity play. :-) I've gotten most of my shopping done for gifts, but I still have a few more to go.Read More
If there's one thing that Joel and I look forward to every week, it's definitely date night. It's our guaranteed, set aside time to connect, relax, and enjoy one another. Whether that entails dressing up and doing something elaborate, or playing rounds of UNO (go ahead, laugh!) and stuffing our faces with chocolate chip cookies at home. It's fun either way, and it has been a great weekly tradition that I keep with my best friend.Read More
Time is truly fleeting. Our dark-haired beauty is already a month old and becoming more and more curious about the world around her. She is working hard on earning that double chin and loves cuddling in the warmth of our arms (we don't mind one bit). As we continue on in the throws of newborn parenting: exhaustion, no set routine, learning all about this new tiny human, and still connecting with each other and Owen, I wanted to take some time to reflect and share some thoughts.Read More
I really enjoy thinking about fun gift ideas for the sweet people in my life, but sometimes my thoughts don't always translate into actually making my ideas a reality. Can you relate?
However, I recently seized the opportunity (*fist pump*) and I put together a simple housewarming gift basket for my sister who is just starting to settle into her new abode. I'd love to share with you some tips on how you can create a meaningful housewarming gift, too!Read More
My favorite season is fall - hands down. I love a good pumpkin spice latte (who doesn't?), the cool morning air, the changing colors, comfy clothes, the crackling sound of leaves underfoot, and the list goes on and on. Now, I have one more reason to love the season even more and I can't wait to share it with you...
You ready for it?Read More
My sweet boy,
We are down to the last days before your baby sister arrives and we are all so excited! Well, maybe you aren’t, but it’s not because you wouldn’t be if you could, you just don’t understand yet. You’ve noticed Mommy’s growing belly - mostly the inconvenience of my once wide-open lap to read books on dwindling as my stomach has pushed farther and farther into your comfortable go-to seat. But you haven’t seemed to mind too much, there is still a small spot to sit, and my sing-song reading of your favorite “Itsy Bitsy Spider” book hasn’t changed. You are going to be a good big brother.Read More
Asheville, NC holds a special place in my heart. It’s mountainous beauty, creative entrepreneurial spirit, fierce bend toward local businesses, kombucha-drinking people, and a foodie paradise are some of my favorites things about this sweet city. It’s a place my husband and I called home for almost five years and where we experienced a lot of life.
Recently, we had the opportunity to take a trip back in honor of our seven year anniversary and to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our second little one (!!). Our visit included catching up with dear friends, quality time alone without our little guy in tow, and eating… A LOT of eating.Read More
Is “nesting” a real thing when you’re pregnant?
When I was pregnant with my first, I remember so many mamas telling me how bad they had the nesting bug - scrubbing floors with toothbrushes, dusting every last inch of the house, prepping 10+ frozen meals, and making sure everything was in order for baby to come home too.Read More
For years I had pondered and dreamed about starting a blog. I'd read books, talked about it, and was even gifted my own domain name for Christmas one year. I always found an excuse as to why I hadn't started yet - no time, emotionally spent, exhausted as a first-time mom, etc. Underneath those excuses, the real reason was simply because I wanted perfection. I was fearful of doing it wrong - not knowing what to say, not having the best design, or thinking I needed more skills in my tool belt before proceeding. There was a risk involved that seemed to big for me to take. I was paralyzed by my need for perfection.Read More
