Sweet, sweet Micah,
It feels like the past twelve months have come and gone so quickly, yet here we are, celebrating the gift your life is to our family. Although I haven’t filled out any pages in your baby book (oops!), had the heart to take away your beloved pacifier, or finished decorating your room, I HAVE truly treasured each day God has given me with you.
When thinking over the year, there are a few things that stick out to me the most:
1. You are observant and opinionated. - From the beginning, you have always been so curious about the world around you - taking it all in with those big blue eyes, and exploring it without caution. Sometimes it’s a little overwhelming to you, and you’d rather sit back and watch everything from the safety of my arms (definitely don’t mind!). You also have perfected the “drama drop” as your dad and I lovingly, and laughingly, call it. As soon as you are not happy about a decision that’s been made you throw your whole body backwards in protest. It’s terrifying and hilarious at the same time. We LOVE that you have strong opinions and hope to encourage you as you grow older to always speak them with boldness and conviction.
2. You have a community that loves you deeply. - We couldn’t do this parenting thing without Jesus, and He has been faithful to surround us with people in each season that help us love and care for you and your brother. Do you know that our neighbors, family, and friends (near and far!) prayed for your arrival and continue to pray for you everyday? They love you and it shows in so many ways - coming over to play and babysit, sharing meals, asking good questions about how you’re doing, passing along clothes, etc. We are so grateful you have this community to grow up alongside, and we trust that God will provide this wherever you go.
3. Owen is your hero. - You spend a lot of your day watching your big brother and begging him to play. There’s no one else that can make you laugh like he does, and even the slightest movement from him will make your whole face light up. You kindly share your toys with him (makes our hearts melt), and are always hoping that he’ll drop some of his snack by mistake for you to scrounge. You guys both share a love for music and we sing and dance as a family multiple times a day. I pray that in the coming years that you and Owen will love and care for each other well - appreciating how God has uniquely created and called both of you.
This year, as a mother, I have celebrated not being fearful of doing something the wrong way, but allowed myself grace and breathing room. I definitely don’t have this parenting thing down, but I am looking to Jesus for wisdom and strength to love and keep you safe. You are precious and I’m proud that you’re my daughter!
Micah’s current lineup of favorites and dislikes:
Favorites: Listening and doing the hand motions to Itsy Bitsy Spider, eating hotdogs, your pacifier, carrying around Ellie the Elephant, always having Mommy in sight, taking things out of drawers and purses, kissing your family goodnight, any animal - especially dogs, coloring, putting on hats, and being understood when communicating.
Dislikes: Being told “no” (who does??! haha), cold whole milk, sleeping past 6am, big stuffed animals - especially if they make sounds, sitting still, and getting your diaper changed.
